Elvis Presley was born on January 8th 1935 in Tupelo Mississippi to Vernon and Gladys Presley. In 1948 Elvis and his parents moved to Memphis Tennessee where he attended Humes High School and graduated from there in 1953. Elvis began his singing career when he entered sun records to record a Christmas song for his mother. When they heard him sing the song they discovered that he had the sound and feel that attracted black teens along with the white teens that gained interest to rock and roll at it's beginning at the turn of the century. Elvis starred in 33 films that were successful and his television appearances made history. His first television appearance was on the Ed Sullivan show. He was nominated for 14 Grammy awards and won 3 of them. Elvis was also named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation for 1970. He served in the Vietnam war despite the privileges his status as a celebrity gave him. Elvis became well known all over the world by his first name for his talents as a singer and an actor. Elvis Presley died in his home, Graceland at Memphis on August 16, 1977.
