The Korean war began on June 25 of 1950 when over 75000 Korean troops crossed over the 38th parallel which was the the boarder between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the pro-Western Republic of Korea further south. This first invasion by North Korea was the first military of the battles known as the Cold War. American troops entered the war starting on that July to fight for South Korea. After America's entrance into the war American officials began to attempt a settlement with the North Koreans in fear that other countries like China or Russia might join this war. In July of 1953 the Korean war ended and over 5 million soldiers and innocent civilians lost their lives over the course of the war with Korea still divided in half to this very day.
