On December 23 of 1954 the first living kidney transplant was successfully lead by Dr. Joseph Murray and Dr. David Hume in Boston at the Brigham Hospital. A kidney was transplanted from Ronald Herrick to his identical twin Richard. Before this procedure was perfected it was tested on dogs. One of the identical twins was dying of kidney disease and the other was completely healthy which served to be the perfect setup for their first operation to be done on humans.
